Cello QLED 55-inch 4K HDR10 TV under £800

Cello announces inexpensive 55-inch QLED TV – made in the UK.

British TV manufacturer Cello introduced its first QLED TV to a handpicked group of journalists and influencers last night. The new Cello television combines QLED viewing with market-leading Android 7 Smart TV features at an unrivalled price.

The Bishop Auckland-based TV maker is kicking off its QLED range with a 55-inch model retailing from just £799.

The Cello QLED TV is encased in stainless steel for a truly premium feel combined with a screen that brings 4K HDR content without breaking the bank.

QLED TV tech

The new 3840×2160 UHD Smart TV features run on Android Nougat, rather than Android TV. This enables the Cello QLED skills such as 4K casting, multiple video app account access and live TV pause support from USB.

The user interface at the demonstration was nice and snappy. The telly is powered by an AMLogic 962, ARM Cortex A53 quad-core CPU @1.5GHz, making it the first European set to do so. That chip is backed up by 2GB DDR4 RAM and a 5 core ARM Mali-450 graphics processing unit (GPU).

Additionally, access to a wide range of Android apps and functionality in the App Store such as SkyGo, VirginGo and BT sports is also rather nifty.

Cello Play allows seamless access to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), plus integration between TV channels and other video player apps, such as YouTube, iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, and UKTVPlay. This intelligently provides programme information to viewers, allowing them to move up to seven days back and forwards through the EPG.

The spec sheet states that the Samsung panel 1200:1 typical contrast ratio and 200 cd/m2 brightness.

Connectivity includes four HDMI as well as a pair of USB ports for storage. There is also 8GB of onboard flash memory. I was told that one HDMI will play nice with ARC (audio return channel).

Brian Palmer, CEO of Cello, told GadgetyNews:

Our new QLED TV range rivals the quality of other high street brands, but at a fraction of the price, continuing our mission to provide superior, affordable viewing to the British public. The addition of Android 7 and Cello Play also provides seamless access to the very best functionality available to enhance the viewing experience. Our new smart TV offering is so good that we’re rolling it out across all Cello 4K and Full HD models to the benefit of a greater number of our customers.”
