Panasonic Let’s Note CF-SV7 – ports and power aplenty

Panasonic has introduced a new addition to their range of laptops with the unique-looking Let’s Note CF-SV7.

The new Panasonic Let’s Note CF-SV7-series notebooks are the only ultra-compact PCs to feature Intel’s latest mobile processors. It also bucks the trend seen on Apple and co and boasts 7 ports plus an SD card reader.

The 12.1-inch CF-SV7 features Intel’s quad-core 8th Generation Core i5 and i7 processors. Oh, it also packs an optical disc drive. Now, how many companies offer ultra-light laptops with a disc spinner these days?

As well as the options of Intel Core i5-8250U or Core i7-8650U processors, you get up to 16GB of LPDDR3 memory. Storage can run up to 512GB of SATA SSD and up to 1TB of PCIe SSD.

The screen is a 12.1-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) display. Stamina is up to 21 hours thanks to the hefty long-life battery.

All of this is in a case that measures 11.2 x 8 x 1-inches. The CF-SV7 tips the scales at no more than 1.124 kilograms, even when equipped with a high-capacity “L” battery.

However, it’s the range of connectivity that impressed me.

Plenty ports

This ultra-compact offers a Thunderbolt USB Type-C port, 3 x USB 3.0 Type-A ports, HDMI, Ethernet, VGA, 3.5mm audio jacks and a handy SD card reader.

Furthermore, there’s wireless connectivity support for both 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1.

Finally, Panasonic is also offering optional 4G LTE connectivity with speeds of 300Mbps down and 50Mbps up.

I’ve not seen anything like it

You might be looking at this laptop thinking, “that’s unlike any other ultra-light lappy I’ve seen” and you’d be right.

Firstly, these devices are very light because they are made of plastic. Don’t worry though, they’re still hardy enough to withstand a drop from a height of 76 cm.

Even though they weigh under a kilogram, they’re not ultra-thin like modern notebooks from the likes of Apple, HP or Lenovo.

Some may even say that the CF-SV7 is a little chunky. But, they are designed to offer their owners the best possible connectivity, feature set and battery life, something that we usually see on 14-inch+ laptops from other manufacturers.

Market-driven

In Europe and the U.S. most go for ultra-thin PCs even if they lack replaceable batteries or certain ports. You see, preferences are different in Japan. This is who Panasonic is aiming the CF-SV7 at. This market really digs its 12-inch laptops with optical drives. Users also demand thick replaceable batteries and plenty of connectors.

Price and availability

The Panasonic CF-SV7 will be available to purchase throughout Japan with prices starting from $2,300 rising to nearly $4,000 for the flagship system.
