PlayStation 4? Already Under Way says Sony

Yup – these were the very words used by Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Masaru Kato.

Kato announced that work on the PS4 is “already under way” during a conference call.

Kato didn’t actually name the device – instead he tactfully referred to a “future platform” during yesterdays call.

He did however go on to state:

“For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life,” continuing “But this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product, I cannot discuss – but our development work is already under way.”

There’s already sweepstakes as to when the PS4 will be unveiled with the favourite being an outing at E3 2012. Shuhei Yoshida, Head of Sony’s Global Games Development Team seems it’s more to do with when Microsoft and Nintendo show their next gen consoles off:

“Probably we should watch these companies, in my opinion. Because PS3 was later than Xbox, and is more powerful, so it has a longer lifespan.”

Lets hope that the PlayStation Network has been fixed and hack-free by then eh? 😉
