iPad 4 released only six months after the last one

They say there are no surprises at Apple events! Apple has just released a new fourth generation iPad – although I did hear the rumour before hand.

That’s right. Six months after the iPad 3, there’s a new iPad.

The new iPad features a new A6X chip, LTE 4G for cellular versions and faster Wi-Fi.

Apple claims the iPad 4’s new processor will double both the CPU performance and the graphics performance of the previous A5X CPU used in the third generation new iPad. Ouch!

The iPad four might share its body, 9.7-inch Retina display and a rear 5MP iSight camera with its predecessor but the camera has been tweaked for better performance and the iPad 4 is more energy efficient and so can boast 10 hours of continuous battery life.

Apple has also included its new Lightning port and has announced that the iPad 4 will be LTE compatible. It was spotted that in the background of Apple’s San Jose presentation was the Everything Everywhere logo, which suggests that the UK will be able to enjoy faster network speeds when the iPad 4 arrives here in good ol’ Blighty.

The iPad 4 has been priced, but as it’s replacing the iPad 3, it is just the same pricing setup as the outgoing iPad – £399, £479 and £559 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Wi-Fi only models respectively, while 4G will bump these prices up to £499, £579 and £659.

The iPad 2 stays in the range but this new iPad ousts the, errrr, new iPad.

Pre-orders for the Wi-Fi only version are due to begin on Friday 26 October, before shipping commences on 2 November. The Wi-Fi and cellular version will follow in the coming weeks.

Undoubtedly, this is a great device for new iPad owners (or those looking to upgrade from iPad 2)— but for iPad 3 owners… well, let me know how you feel.
