Microsoft wants to win back Developers, launches Modern.IE [video]
Microsoft has been fighting an up-hill struggle since the arrival of Firefox and Chrome and it’s mainly developers that have given up on Internet Explorer and tend to only use it because they *have* to. The latest version of the browser seems to be a step in the right direction, and perhaps so is their latest innovation: Modern.IE.
Modern.IE is basically a developer center where you can find tools and resources to help check and solve compatibility issue with older versions of Internet Explorer.
This does mean that Microsoft is aware of the troubles that developers go through when trying to work around IE’s compatibility issues – but, at least it’s trying to take steps to rectify the situation.
Modern.IE is still in Beta but it lets you develop without worrying about older versions of IE — the idea is that you can simply focus on the task at hand, and let Modern.IE’s code detection mechanism take care of the compatibility issues.
You also get three-months of free access to BrowserStack, a leading virtual browser testing site that lets you test your website on multiple browsers. Modern.IE also includes add-ins for Chrome or Firefox, which give you single click access to the BrowserStack virtual testing service right from your browser of choice.
