HTC Vive Front Defense VR game played
You know that GadgetyNews loves the HTC Vive VR headset so this has been the moment we have been waiting for. The first game for HTC Vive has been demonstrated – and it looks great!
If, like me, you were hoping for a first person shooter – then you are very much in luck.
This year’s Computex 2016 technology conference was the choice venue for HTC Vive to unleash Front Defense. The virtual reality game has been designed by Fantahorn Studio and, even though it’s not exactly revolutionary or genre defining, looks pretty good to me.
Front Defense is a World War II VR shooter that positions you behind sandbags to fight off wave after wave of enemy soldiers using a variety of weapons. Check out the video below:

The game is still under development but it still looks mighty fun, right?
I can just imagine what the first job in hand will be. Literally. You are going to have to learn how to use your motion-tracked hands.
All of a sudden, one of those swift motions you have been accustomed to on similar shooters such as holding a gun in your right hand whilst loading a fresh magazine with your left will now be a game in itself.
Other things to get your head around are picking up a grenade and holding it to your teeth to take out the pin before throwing it. Bazookas are loaded by stretching to insert a rocket in the rear end.
As you can imagine, these actions aren’t always the easiest to perform under fire.
I can see how there could be tasks set, such as finding more ammo as well as the usual headshot bonuses and, perhaps, knife/bayonet kills.
The thing is, seeing the more arcade action set up of the demo, makes me think this is going to be more along the Space Invaders rules of game play rather than anything more strategic. Still, as a proof of concept, I still want to have a go.
HTC has also recently launched the Vive X fund which has been created to invest $100 million to help accelerate the ideas from developers who are currently creating virtual reality games and applications. It has been revealed this week that the PR industry could generate $40 billion in revenues by 2020, according to analysts at SuperData Research.
Unfortunately, the release date for the new HTC Vive Front Defense game has not been announced as yet by HTC. You’ll know as soon as we do.
