Toshiba N300 NAS drives are ready for 24/7 service
Toshiba has just announced their new N300 range of 3.5-inch internal NAS (Network Attached Storage) hard drives for personal, home office and small business use.
The High-Reliability Hard Drive N300 series of consumer drives has been optimised for the performance, reliability, endurance and scalability.
Toshiba’s 3.5-inch N300 High Reliability Hard Drives are available in 4TB and 6TB flavours. These are aimed squarely at NAS and server owners looking for capacious storage that’s available 24/7.
Toshiba says the N300 drives are suitable for bays of up to eight disks. They also pack technology that’s designed to mitigate the effects of vibration, shock, and heat. The company claims the N300 comes with multiple shock sensors and a motor stabilisation system.
The drives operate at 7200 RPM and carry a 128MB buffer.
The 4TB model delivers a peak throughput of 200 MB/s, while the 6TB version can hit 210 MB/s. Average latency is listed as 4.17 ms.
The drives connect via a 6Gbps SATA connection and should be able to withstand workloads of up to 180TB per year.
I’d love to take the 6TB version for a spin alongside my 8TB WD Red.
