Google Search iPhone app Gets New Look and Skills – v2.0 Out Now

google search 2Google Search for iPhone has had a good ol’ refresh for version 2.0 today. As well as the fab Moog Synth front page today there’s a fleet of improvements behind that Doodle.

v2.0 of the Google Search app has landed and it’s now even better!

There’s a brand new user interface, enhanced performance as well as full-screen image search.

Google has also simplified access to its other services within the app, making a distinction between web apps and those you’ve installed from the App Store.

The company promises a quicker search experience thanks to faster autocomplete suggestions and snappier page loading times in general.

Google Searche’s refreshed design should certainly help as you are now able to swipe between various search modes (Images, Places, etc.) and quickly get back to those search results if necessary by swiping away external webpages.

Image search looks a lot nicer now that Google displays results in a full-screen grid format with high-resolution previews.

Tap an image and you get it full size and from there you can continue swiping through the results in that format. Pictures can be saved to the iOS camera roll directly from this grid view by tapping and holding a desired shot.

I really dig the menu bar at the bottom which smoothly flicks across to reveal the Shopping, Videos, Blogs, Discussions and Books options 🙂

This is a huge improvement over what had once been little more than a mirror of the company’s mobile website.

Google Search 2.0 is available for free via the iTunes App Store now although iPad owners will not notice any difference with their Google Search apart from being able to save image results to the camera roll. I’ve no idea why.
