SoundSight live video streaming headphones – the musician’s next social media weapon?

If you want to take video footage from your point of view you can strap a GoPro to your head or, for a quick clip use Google Glass. Now, there’s some headphones that will livestream what you’re seeing and hearing. Could SoundSight be the next social tool for musicians?

SoundSight has packed in a 1080p camera, six microphones, voice control and an Accelerometer into a set of wireless cans.

All of that tech means that not only can you can capture video from your point of view but you can also choose to stream the video live from the stage or studio and, thanks to the companion app for Android and iOS, you can wrangle edits before broadcasting across your social networks.

The smartphone-based toolbox allows you to add music to clips when you need to swap out the audio, play with filters and sort recording controls.

Don’t worry about holding your head at an unnatural angle, or having to wear the headphones in a certain way just to get a decent recording angle as the camera portion is mounted to the outside of the earcups, and rotates through 270 degrees to allow for proper adjustments. In addition to the requisite 3.5mm cable, a USB option is also included to those who favour that connection.

My main concern with the SoundSight headphones is that they’re wireless and feature a load of battery sapping gadgetry. Well, the company claims that with all of those features activated, you can expect around four hours of action from the 800mAh cell, which gets bumped up to 18 hours when only the active noise cancellation is switched on.

That should be more than enough to record a full live show and perhaps some backstage shenanigans. The 1080p camera can capture 720p video at 30 fps, with Bluetooth streaming clocking in with 640p at 24 fps.

If having all of that tech in one place sounds too good to pass up, SoundSight is now up for limited pre-order in onyx (black) or titanium (silver/grey) flavours at the discounted price of $349, with an official launch coming in next spring at the full $499 retail price.
