UbuTab: the 10-inch Ubuntu and Android tablet with 1TB drive
This crowd-funded Ubuntu Tablet promises to keep you media-hungry users happy thanks to terabytes worth of storage.
The UbuTab is an Ubuntu tablet that was announced last week as a “1TB Ubuntu tablet for media lovers.”
Nearly all consumer tablets ship with solid-state storage but the UbuTab is rocking it kinda old-skool with its 7mm thick 1TB spinning hard drive. True, it’s a mechanical drive but 1 terabyte of in-built storage, folks! You also still benefit from a 16GB SSD for swift boot-up times.
The UbuTab claims the benefits of a near edge-to-edge screen, built-in kickstand and stylus, and aluminium construction.
Besides the 1TB HDD, the UbuTab uses an ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core SoC with Mali 400 graphics, 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS display, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of flash storage.
The UbuTab is being funded via flexible funding on Indiegogo with a $36k goal. While it’s already been running for a week, as of now the tablet has attracted $10,000 of funding.
If you’re not Ubuntu savvy, don’t worry as the UbuTab also plays nice with Android.
The earlybird specials have all gone but the Cyber Monday batch of 1TB tablets are still available for a very reasonable $275, whereas the Android version costs $290.
