Record sleeve turns in to Bluetooth DJ controller

DJ Qbert Extraterrestria AlbumBringing the worlds of physical media and digital gadgety goodness together, QBert’s album sleeve doubles up as a DJ controller via Bluetooth and an app.

Vinyl is continuing to make a resurgence even though people like me never stopped using it. DJ QBert has brought together all the good things that vinyl brings as well as the handy tinkering offered by apps by including a special sleeve in to the bundle.

The project was funded by a Kickstarter campaign last year which eventually raised $128,378 ($28,378 over its $100,000 goal). The album sleeve for Extraterrestria sees QBert’s Thud Rumble collaborate with Algoriddim’s DJay app and Novalia’s touch technology, transforming the record’s cover into a Bluetooth DJ controller.

Fans can use the DJay app to run tracks from QBert’s album – or any mp3s they feel like mixing, for that matter – through the two ‘decks’ on the sleeve, then can manipulate them by hand. There are even sample ‘buttons’ and triggers to drop into your mix.

Although most copies of the record will go to those who donated to the Kickstarter, there will be a limited amount available on the Thud Rumble site.
