Cubot X17 selfie loving smartphone lands in UK

cubot x17Cubot X17 might not be the first smartphone name to spring to mind but Chinese manufacturer Cubot Mobile has been working on getting their products out globally. To this end, they are now selling their smartphones through Amazon.co.uk at a very tempting price point.

Cubot is joining the current Chinese invasion of the UK smartphone market with a very similar business model of offering plenty of pow for your pound (first thing that came to mind to equate to the ‘bang for your buck’ Americanism).

As is the way with the Oppo F1, the Cubot X17 is aimed at narcissits… errr… lovers of taking selfies.

Aligning the CUBOT X17 with war-time Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, the X17 boasts the world’s first ‘V for victory’ gesture-control for camera operation.

No more the fiddly shutter-release whilst trying to keep your hand and arm out of the way as capturing the moment is now as simple as a Victory salute to the 8MP front-facing, wide-angle camera. I have a sneaking suspicion that the other V-sign may work too 😉

Other gesture-control features include ‘wave to unlock’, ‘lift to ear’ to answer calls and switch from hands free, and ‘swivel to silence’.

cubot x17 edgeThe Cubot is a skinny 6.1mm thin and promises “blistering performance and a bright high-definition screen”.

The rear camera packs a 16MP sensor mated with a with double LED flash and blue membrane-coated f/2.2 aperture lens.

The Cubot X17 offers the option of manual settings or to be able to switch to one of six specialist modes that include: motion tracking, multi angle view, panorama, and live photo.

The X17’s refined frame is engineered from zinc alloy to sustain high levels of wear, whilst its 5-inch 1080p display features a 178-degree wide-angle viewing for stand-out images, even in harsh light.

Under the hood is  a quad-core 64-bit processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB ROM, and a ARM Cortex A53 graphics processor which should make the X17 is fast and responsive and enable it to handle the most demanding apps and games without any lag.

NFC connectivity, a dual sim function, and Android USB UTG compatibility for USB devices ensure enhanced usability.

Available from Amazon UK the X17 has an RRP of £175. All Cubot products come with a 12-month warranty.
