Next Nexus ditches Android app drawer?
With the next Nexus phones around the corner, the new Android operating system is also up for a refresh. Are Google really ditching the app tray?
According to the latest leak it certainly looks as though one of the things I love about stock ‘droid is about to disappear.
The days of our good friend, the app drawer, are numbered it seems.
Just have a look at these gifs!
According to Android Police, which produced animated GIFs, such as those presented here, to back up its claims. The AP site has them at higher res but these serve to show what’s being planned.
The new approach to organising apps still kinda retains the app drawer. In the new version, instead of the familiar little icon in the middle of the bottom dock, now has an up arrow signifying that the user can swipe up to reveal. Doing so, pulls up the list of apps with one of Google’s swanky page transition effects.
Swiping down will then fold it back away again – just be careful not to hit the notifications pane, or press the little arrow.
Oh yeah, this leak also reveals that the home screen has changed too. You see, instead of the usual Google search box there’s now a G for Google tab that pulls out the search box. That’s nicely neat.
What do you think about these updates?
