SteelSeries Siberia 840 gaming headset now available
SteelSeries introduce the Siberia 840, stating that they have “upgraded the best gaming headset”.
SteelSeries has just announced a new gaming headset, the Siberia 840.
The new headgear builds on the company’s existing Siberia 800 but adds Bluetooth in to the mix.
This means the headset will play nice with PC, Mac, consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4), as well as mobile devices.
SteelSeries says:
The Siberia 840 combines the same heralded features of the Siberia 800, including two swappable batteries that ensures non-stop performance, cross-platform compatibility for universal use, and Dolby 7.1 surround sound technology for total immersion; but elevates it with a set of new elements, including Bluetooth connectivity and software customization”
Siberia 840 – packed with tech
The popular gaming accessory-maker goes on to say that the headset guarantees a lag-free wireless gaming experience. This is achieved through a “unique technology” that continuously hops between frequencies, avoiding interference and delays.
Similar to its awarded predecessor, the Siberia 840 is said to deliver exceptionally immersive and crisp 7.1 surround sound. It actually uses no less than three different Dolby technologies in order to maximise performance: Dolby Headphone, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic IIx.
Bluetooth and physical controls
Taking nothing away from the headphones but, I have to admit that the bit I love the look of the most is actually the included mini-receiver transmitter box (seen above).
You don’t need to use it – but why the hell wouldn’t you? As well as looking awesome with its monochrome OLED display, it allows you to change settings without the need of diving in to the software.
This could also mean that Linux gamers will have access to all the features – no more feeling left out. I must add that Linux support is not officially listed, but should work.
This rather glorious looking, and probably sounding, Bluetooth gaming headset should match those features with being really comfortable too. Just look at those deep memory foam ear pads, perfectly built for those gaming marathons.
Siberia 840 price and availability
Those premium features do come with a fairly premium price tag too, though.
The current MSRP is €349,00 (just under £300) direct from SteelSeries.
OK, that’s not pocket change but the headset will work with your gaming PC, mobile devices, and consoles.
You can even use them as headphones for music and movies as the mic is retractable. So, you could argue that these headphones can do the job of 2 or 3 sets.
Basically, you could get a lot of use from the Siberia 840, which may justify the cost. These should also put up with anything you throw at them as SteelSeries products are generally built to last.
