Thanks for all that information.

I have certainly learned something there 🙂

Metal card holders have at least a couple of problems. One is that they don’t necessarily provide a complete RFID protection because they have seams that have incomplete RF seals. Second is that many people want to be able to carry their regular wallets, not add extra bulk by also carrying a card holder. For many people, the card holders are not a complete replacement for regular wallets. The Vaultcard allows them to use their wallets and still have a good RFID protection.

Jay Garret in a post above (or below) also has a good explanation but he has an error. He said that a Faraday cage has to have a ground in order to have RFID protection. That is incorrect. Grounding is not necessary for that type of protection. He is confusing it with RFI (RF Interference) protection, where ground is necessary to prevent the cage from acting like an antenna. Again, for RFID protection, ground is not necessary, as evidenced by the fact that *completely* sealing a card with a couple of layers of thick aluminum foil — and nothing else — can provide protection against RFID scanning.

Heh! Physics was the only thing that made sense to me. Saying that though, I also got a higher grade in French than I did in English. Meh. 😛

Which is why i am not a physicist! 😀 Thank you Jay.

Hey there John.

A tin or metal business card holder will block out some, as would some tin foil. To create a Faraday Cage, though, you’d have to know what specific frequency your RFID tags
operated on (13.56MHz mostly) and have the appropriate cage for that.

You would also need a grounding strip going from the cage to the ground as far as I know.
