Zotac Magnus EN980 Rift and Vive ready mini-pc

magnus en980 pcThe Zotac Magnus EN980 looks to be a very potent mini-PC, powerful enough to hook up multiple monitors as well as Virtual Reality headgear such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Zotac is bringing a huge chunk of graphics power to the mini-PC space with its new Zbox Magnus EN980.

The not so subtle hint in the name is a sure-fire tell that the EN980 will pack a GeForce GTX 980 graphics chip.

That GTX 980 will be paired with some variety of Skylake Core i5 CPU. Given the tight confines of the mini-PC form factor and Zotac’s previous use of MXM cards in the EN970, the GTX 980 may be the full mobile version that Nvidia released for high-end gaming notebooks.

Zotac Zbox Magnus EN980Zotac says the EN980 will be so powerful that it will go “beyond the recommended specifications for [the] VR experience.”

In order to handle all that power in such a confined space the EN980 will use a liquid-cooling system. Zotac says the guts of the PC will be housed in a new case designed for greater heat dissipation.

The EN980 will support up to four displays using a mix of HDMI ports and DisplayPorts.

The device will also have ample connectivity, including dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port. A yet to be discolsed number of USB 3.0 ports will also be included.

Zotac is taking the new Zbox Magnus EN980 to Cebit 2016 and GDC 2016. I want… I need to have a play with this machine!
