A Decade of MP3 – Happy 10th Birthday!
This is the MPMan F10 -the 1st Mp3 player!
Manufactured by Korea’s Saehan Information Systems, the device was launched in March of 1998 at CeBIT, and went on sale in the Summer through Eiger Labs for $250.
Packed with 32MB of flash memory (which could be upgraded to 64MB via mail-in scheme) it hooked up to PCs via a parallel port and sported an LCD for playback info. Swish huh?
Following the MPMan’s release Rio then put forward their PMP300 which received a warmer reception and all-but eclipsed the F10’s status as “first” amongst players.
I bet you’ll look at your iThingies and Creative Jobbies a lot more thankfully now :0)
