Samasung Galaxy S 2 UK Launch Date Set

Samsung has officially announced the UK launch date of its first dual-core smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II – and it’s not as late as originally thought.

After being flashed around Mobile World Congress a coupla months ago the S II was pencilled in for a March 31st launch date.

It turns out that the Samsung Galaxy S II will launch the first week of May here in the UK.

Yeah, that’s not very precise – the reason for this is that I’ve read that May 1st is the UK launch date but that’s a bit odd.

You see, May 1st puts the smartphone touching down on these shores on a Sunday. Not only that, but a Sunday which precedes the May Bank holiday Monday. All of that adds up to eager S II buyers having to cool their heals ’til Tuesday May 3rd.

So why not make it the 3rd or even the already rumoured 6th anyhow?

But enough of this random day nonsense – remember that Sammy has now squeezed a powerful 1.2GHz dual-core processor under the hood which is a definite boost when compared with the the 1GHz chip previously promised.

The Galaxy S II will also be kitted out with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, 8-megapixel rear mounted camera with 1080p Full-HD video recording capabilities and a second front-facing snapper; all of which is shoehorned into an 8.9mm thin body.

You also get the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread software with Samsung’s Game Hub and Music Hub which is set to rival Apple’s iTunes Store and App Store togetherness.

If you’re minding the pennies I have even better news. The price has dropped a full 100 notes! Play.com is now asking £500 in exchange for Sammy’s S II.

Will you be joining the queue at the start of May? Samsung will be hoping that the S II will be able to match the smartphone hit, Galaxy S which has been bought by over 10 million people in the last year!
