Apple Watch wins iF Design Gold Award – not even launched yet
The Apple Watch is expected to launch in April with Apple holding a press event for their new smartwatch Monday, March 9th, but this hasn’t prevented it from winning an award already.
I suppose a design can win a prestigious award even before it has been tested in real life by the target user group. Well, Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize within moments of becoming President before actually doing anything to warrant it beyond making promises, in my opinion.
Anyhow, back to the award. The Apple Watch has been bestowed the iF Design Gold Award 2015. Whether the Watch fulfils all its design criteria – such as function – is yet to be seen.
What the panel of judges like is:
The idea of combining classic materials such as leather and metal with state-of-the-art technology to create a very individual fashion accessory has resulted in a delightful product offering a holistic user experience. The Apple Watch scores highly for each design detail and is an altogether extraordinary piece of design.”
Yup – iF already sees the Apple Watch as an “icon”.
To be fair though, Apple has won a number of iF Design Awards over the years which include a total of 125 awards and 44 Gold Awards.
Needless to say, there are a lot of people hankering for more information regarding the fruity wearable. What is already known is that the entry level model will retail for $349.
