Galaxy S8 buttons and release date
It has been a couple of months since I have reported anything about the next Samsung Galaxy handsets. With some new news hitting the grapevine, I thought now would be a good time to update.
It is expected that the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be made official at Samsung’s press conference later this month on March 29th.
Release date
According to a recent report the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be available to pre-order from April 10th.
The worldwide launch will apparently happen on the April 21st. Naturally, neither of these dates have been confirmed by Samsung.
Change of controls
Thanks to the aptly named Slash Leaks we are now privy to some up close and personal shots of the S8.
First thing you will probably have noticed is just how skinny those bezels are.
This is no doubt helped along by whipping away the home button.
At the back of what is reportedly the larger Galaxy S8 Plus, you can see a separate sensor next to the camera that appears to be the fingerprint reader.
We’ve heard rumors of the fingerprint reader at the rear before, but this is the best look we’ve seen so far.
Sammobile speculates this could also work as a physical home button.
Although this seems unlikely, other mobiles do have scanners that can double with shortcuts to controls and apps.
Would Samsung want Galaxy S8 owners to reach for the rear of their device to navigate around Android? Not sure.
Given the vast amount of Galaxy S8 leaks, we might know the answers to the home button mystery and other aspects of the device before the phone even launches on March 29th.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is rumored to come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. There will also be a version of the handset with the new Samsung Exynos processor.
The handset will feature 4GB of RAM and a choice of storage options from 64GB up. They will play nice with microSD cards and come with high end cameras.
On the front of the S8 there will be an 8 megapixel camera and on the back there will be two 12 megapixel cameras. Your peepers will be no doubt pleased by the 5.8-inch display on the S8. The S8 Plus will come with a 6.2-inch display, both handsets will come with Android Nougat.
Samsung will make their new Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones official at a Samsung Unpacked press event on March 29th.
Expect more leaks before then.
