HTC smartwatch landing in April
News regarding the HTC smartwatch has been rather thin on the ground recently but it looks like things are hotting up if the rumours are true.
Thanks to the reliable leaker Evan Blass (aka @evleaks), it does look as though HTC’s first smartwatch “should be out mid-April”.
Earlier this year it was reported that a device, codenamed PETRA, could be in the works – but that may well have ended up being the cancelled HTC Grip (which has since been reborn, sort of, as the Under Armour Band).
Blass previously predicted that HTC fans will “finally have One watch to call [their] own come February”, but it’s possible that this was referring to a Mobile World Congress reveal at the end of February in Barcelona. If the April date turns out to be correct for the HTC smartwatch release then we could well see it debut at MWC 2016.
According to a recent tweet from Evan Blass (@evleaks) January 22, 2016
Nope, but the watch should be out mid-April.”
Past rumours have pointed to a circular 360 x 360 display and not much else, but we expect more leaks to drip out over the next month, so stay tuned.
The rumblings of a HTC smartwatch started back in 2014 so I am really hoping that, when it does finally appear, it is good enough to take on the next crop of wearables rather than being a reheated 2014/15 device. HTC really needs this to be an outstanding bit of kit.
I am sure that all shall be revealed very soon in Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress 2016.
