Toshiba Encore 2 Windows 8.1 tablets announced
Toshiba has managed to avoid following most other companies in to the Android tablet arena and has instead opted to release two new Windows 8.1 tablets – the 8-inch and 10-inch Encore 2.
The snappily-named Encore 2 WT10-A is the 10-inch model whereas the Encore 2 WT8-B is the 8-incher.
These might not be the lightest tablets on the block with the smaller model weighing in at 385g and the 10-inch model weighing 555g, but they do offer you the full Microsoft experience at a reasonable price.
Power comes way of an Intel Atom quad-core processor accompanied by 1GB of RAM in the 8-inch tablet and 2GB in the 10-inch tablet.
Each device has a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution display, 32GB of storage and built-in Dolby speakers. They both also share the handiness of microSD card slots and micro-USB ports, with the 10-inch Encore 2 adding a micro-HDMI port to its list of connectivity options.
You also get a 5MP camera on whichever Encore 2 you choose and the tablets come in a satin gold finish, just like their Click 2 stablemates.
Both new Encores come with a full year’s subscription to Microsoft Office 365, 7GB of free OneDrive storage and 60 minutes per month of worldwide Skype calls.
The Encore 2 tablets are able to easily transform a TV into a second screen thanks to wireless display technology.
Toshiba is claiming both tablets will have 8.5 hours of battery stamina.
The 8-inch Encore 2 will be priced at £179 and the 10-inch device will cost £229 and both will be available in June.
