Google Play All Access released to take on Spotify, Rdio and Pandora
You can now buy a music subscription from Google starting with a free 30-day trial. PLease welcome Google’s Play All Access to the stage.
Google Play All Access has launched and it will cost you $10 per month after a 30-day free trial, and if you sign up right now it will only cost you $8 per month.
During today’s Google I/O keynote, Google introduced All Access – a music discovery machine which Google says is better than its competitors.
At first glance it looks like a straight forward on-demand-meets-radio service with the personalisation options that everyone now expects. It works on phones, tablets and web browsers.
From a design and User experience perspective, the innovation comes from the degree to which it’s easy to switch between the hands-on and hands-off experiences.
If you don’t know what you want to listen to you can just hit “Listen Now” and start listening to something right away. When you want to geek out on Google’s huge on-demand catalogue, you can do that too.
The great thing is though, all the features that you’ve grown to love in Google Music stay with you, as they are all integrated in to Play Access.
It’s on-demand music, radio, and online storage locker for your personal collection all in one place. Pretty slick, huh?
The My Library section of the app includes personal music (presumably local tracks and those not acquired via the Google Play store) as well as anything discovered and added from All Access. Yerga emphasized the app’s ability to make music recommendations, and will offer top albums by genre as well as “expert power recommendations.”
Unlike Spotify or Rdio’s services, Google didn’t mention any social integration with All Access, such as the ability to follow friends, view their activity, or subscribe to their playlists.
Google has long been missing a streaming music answer to services like Spotify and Pandora. Now, all we have to do is wait and see which service comes out on top.
