Apple iPad Pro launched finally – Big tablet, big seller?
For the last couple of years the iPad Pro has been a rumour. This year things got a little more serious. Finally, Apple has officially announced their new larger iPad. So, strap yourself in for the full iPad Pro specifications as well as details on the release date and price of Apple’s new tablet.
The iPad Pro is Apple’s largest tablet to date and sports a 12.9-inch Retina display that has a resolution of 2732 x 2048 pixels and 264 ppi.
I shall put this warning out there now – if I see anyone using an iPad Pro to take a picture, I will slap them with it!
The iPad Pro is pushed along by Apple’s new A9X processor which, according to Apple, is 1.8 times faster than the Apple A8X processor, it also comes with a new M9 motion coprocessor.
You get a FaceTime HD selfie camera which can record 720p video and packs face detection, backside illumination and more.
The rear camera on the tablet is an 8 megapixel iSight camera with backside illumination and a five element lens, it comes with a f/2.4 aperture and a Hybrid IR filter.
There’s also Apple’s Touch ID and a fingerprint sensor and the iPad Pro will be available in both WiFi only and WiFi and cellular flavours.
Sensors come in the form of a three axis gyro, an accelerometer, a barometer and an ambient light sensor. The WiFi model will be available with a choice of two storage options 32GB and 128GB, the cellular model will come with 128GB of storage.
There are also new speakers in the iPad Pro – it is loaded with four stereo speakers that are located at each corner of the tablet. The device comes with a 38.5 watt-hour battery that will give you up to 10 hours of usage over WiFi and up to 9 hours of usage over LTE.
The new super-sized tablet weighs almost as much as the original (1.57 pounds) and yet, at 6.9mm almost matches the iPad Air‘s 6.1mm thickness.
Apple also introduced a new Stylus with the iPad Pro, this is called the Apple Pencil (really) and it will retail separately (of course) for $100.
The iPad Pro will launch in three colours, silver, gold and Space Grey, prices for Apple’s new tablet will start at $799 for the 32GB WiFi model, the 128GB WiFi model will retail for $949 and the 128GB cellular model will retail for $1,079.
Apple have said that they will launch their new larger iPad in November, as yet there are no details on a specific release date.
Do you think that there will be a huge surge for the iPad Pro? Could this challenge the Microsoft Surface 3 Pro? Let me know your thoughts.
Time will tell.
