You may have noticed my pledge in the article about YouTube’s attack on small channels. Basically, subscribe to our YouTube Channel and win a BlackBerry KEYone!

So, just in case you missed it, here it is again.

We want to keep our site free, but we rely on the little income we get from the likes of YouTube adverts. Well, as of February 20th, that might end for us.

What is happening?

Thanks to YouTube’s new rules, any channel with under 1,000 subscribers and less than 4,000 hours of watch time over the past 12 months with be booted off the monetisation scheme.

I think it is a rather clumsy way of YouTube pleasing their advertisers who, naturally, don’t want their products popping up on hate speeches and extremist videos.

However, my thoughts and those of tens-of-thousands of smaller YouTube channels are not worth a jot to the giant video sharing site and their bean counters.
