iFi nano iOne DAC – small USB DAC, big features

nano iOne (front)We have just been contacted by iFi about their diminutive DAC, the nano iOne.

According to the company, their iFi nano iOne is a versatile sound-boosting digital audio ‘hub’ for all manner of devices.

These devices include smartphones and computers, TVs and games consoles.

iFi even go as far as to say that this little DAC is “The one DAC to rule home audio”.

Easy tiger!

iFi nano iOne DAC

The nano iOne from iFi is designed to be a convenient, high-quality digital audio ‘hub’.

This DAC (Digital-to-Analogue Converter) promises to be miniature in size yet big on features and performance.

The nano iOne can be used to boost sound from all manner of digital devices: smartphones, tablets, PCs, Macs, TVs, games consoles, media streamers and more.

iFi nano iOneIt offers wireless connectivity over Bluetooth, as well as USB and S/PDIF digital inputs.

The nano iOne can be connected to an integrated amp, preamp, headphone amp or active speakers via its RCA analogue outputs.

It can also be used to add USB and Bluetooth connectivity to an existing DAC, thanks to its bit-perfect digital output.

iFi nano iOne key features

The feature-set of this diddy DAC is impressive.

First, let’s kick off with its 32-bit DAC. This is, naturally, fully certified for hi-res audio. It will play nice with PCM/DXD up to 384kHz and DSD up to 12.4MHz. The Burr-Brown ‘True Native’ DAC chipset handles PCM and DSD natively. This means that the music signal stays in its original format throughout to maintain purity.

iFi nano iOne PCB top layerAdditionally, all digital input signals are treated to the Zero Jitter Memory Buffer technology. This covers Bluetooth, S/PDIF and asynchronous USB.

iFi nano iOne PCB bottom layeriFi are renowned for minimising noise. So, it’s no real surprise to see Active Noise Cancellation for the power supply (via the USB socket). This should dramatically lower the noise floor.

On the front of the unit are two digital filter options: ‘Listen’ and ‘Measure’.

This is all powered via USB (5v USB power supply is included). This, and its 122g weight, means that it is perfectly portable.

I/O

Input and output are taken care of by Bluetooth, asynchronous USB and S/PDIF (coaxial/optical) digital inputs; S/PDIF (coaxial) digital output; direct-coupled RCA analogue outputs.

iFi nano iOne (rear)The S/PDIF socket doubles as both coaxial and optical flavours of digital input, as well as a coaxial digital output, thus saving rear panel space.

Wireless

Bluetooth 4.0 wireless streaming supports aptX and AAC codecs over Bluetooth. AAC facilitates premium-quality Bluetooth streaming for iOS devices, which do not support aptX.

Price and availability

The iFi nano iOne is available now. RRP is £199 inc. VAT.
