Rage Helps Music Sales Increase

This is great news for musicians and perhaps those big labels will ease off this ‘Piracy is Killing Music’ nonsense.

For the first time since 2003, the UK music industry has seen an increase in sales!

CD sales still continue to drop but the digital market has enjoyed a 1.4% rise in sales to £928.8m in 2009 with sales of singles doing particularly well.

You can’t ignore the huge draw for Spotify, Pandora and Last.Fm but digital track and video sales rose by a hard-to-ignore 51.7%! 🙂

Apparently a huge chunk of that was down to the chart battle for Christmas number one when Rage Against the Machine took on and won X Factor winner Joe McElderry.
