Project Shield – price, games and launch date

Originally flashed back at January’s CES, the NVIDIA Project Shield has finally got a release date and price.

Project Shield comes with what NVIDA Describes as Pure Android, in the form of Android Jelly Bean, which basically means stock Android.

Processing on the Project Shield is provided by a NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, and the console also features 2GB of RAM, 16GB flash storage and a console grade controller with dual analogue joysticks, a full-sized D-Pad, left and right analogue triggers, full-sized bumpers and A/B/X/Y buttons.

The display on the Project Shield is a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, the device also features 802.11n Wifi, plus 16GB of storage, GPS, mini HDMI, Bluetooth 3.0, a microSD card slot, micro USB 2.0 and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

A console-grade controller. A high-definition, 720p HD retinal display. The rich graphics and blazing performance of Tegra 4 – the world’s fastest mobile processor.

These pieces, put together by a company full of gaming fanatics, add up to an amazing new open platform gaming portable. It’s the best way to play Android games. And because it’s an Android device, it works with both Tegra-optimized and regular Android games – as well as Android apps.

There are a couple of PC games landing on Shield, including Broken Age, Costume Quest, Flyhunter Origins, Skiing Fred, and Chuck’s Challenge 3D. But if those don’t do it for you, there are more titles to come.
