Panasonic returns to phones with impressive Lumix DMC-CM1 cameraphone
If, like me, you have a soft spot for Panasonic’s range of Lumix cameras, this new smartphone should be of interest. Say hello to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 cameraphone.
The DMC-CM1 is quite an interesting beast and before you shout out that it’s just like the Galaxy K Zoom there are a number of important differences.
The Panasonic DMC-CM1 appears to be more camera than phone, just as you would expect given Panasonic’s strengths in the digital photography market. The less we say about their foray in to the mobile phone market the better.
The DMC-CM1 packs a 1-inch, 20MP High Sensitivity MOS sensor attached to a f/2.8 Leica DC Elmarit lens. The great thing is that the lens not only sports a mechanical shutter but is also equipped with a manual control ring. Just like a real camera.
The CM1 can also shoot 4K video, and has 4K-related applications for stills – ‘4K pre-burst’ and ‘4K PhotoCapture’.
You get the usual phone bits too – such as a 4.7-inch 1080p screen, 16GB of built-in memory, 1GB of RAM, 2,600mAh battery and Android 4.4 running on a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon platform.
All of that weighs in at an extremely svelte 204g with battery and Micro SD card and the rest of its vitals list out as 135.4 x 68 x 21.1mm.
Panasonic is releasing the DMC-CM1 in France and Germany this year with a general roll-out not yet announced.
