Nokia 9 photos of / by smartphone

nokia-9-boutons-FRANDROIDIt looks like the Nokia 9 has finally broken cover in France. Not only that, but they were allowed to take photos of it, and with it.

Frandroid, the French Android fan site, states that they have had some quality time with the handset.

This, of course, means that they got hands on. Not only that, they also took some snaps in order to test the Nok 9’s camera.

Luckily for us, they have posted the photographic results along with shots of the phone.

Odd shape

Before you start exclaiming that this smartphone looks way too odd, let me put your mind at rest.

Just as carmakers cover their latest models in odd paintwork and body kits, this blower is covered in a fake casing.

nokia-9-split-photo-FRANDROIDIt’s not all bad news though. The screen, camera and other ports were exposed.

These all appear to match up with previously leaked pictures have shown.

Specifications

One of the sites shots included a list of specifications.

They state that the Nokia 9 will sport a 5.3-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) screen. It actually says 5.27-inches but we all know that it will be rounded up in the sales brochure.

nokia-9-benchmark-specs-FRANDROIDIt also mentions that the device will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. This will be mated with 4GB of RAM and come with 64GB of storage.

There will be a mini-jack headphone socket. Good news for those of us that still enjoy being tethered.

Disappointments

So far, all is sounding pretty good.

However, this starts to fall down when the site starts chatting about picture quality.

Apparently, the camera results don’t exactly step up to the other flagships out there.

nokia-9-sample-photo-4-FRANDROIDIn test shots, the images displayed a lack of some detail and light performance was average.

I must mention a couple of things at this point. Firstly, this is a prototype Nokia 9 rather than the final phone. This means that things could improve before it hits the shelves. Secondly, Frandroid was impressed by one camera feature. The new Nok 9 can take simultaneous, square shots using the rear and front-facing cameras.

Nokia 9 release and price

No announcement date has been revealed so far so we’re still working to a third quarter launch. Pricing should be around €750 (£650).
