Sony Cassette Walkman NOT Dead in UK!

There has been much crying and wearing of black armbands since the annoucement from Sony earlier in the week that The Walkman cassette player – the portable device that forever changed music listening before becoming outdated by portable CD and MP3 players – was being killed off at a mere 31 years old.

Sony stated that it has ceased production of the classic cassette tape Walkman in Japan – effectively giving this icon its last rites.

As Sony UK have reminded everyone in this county – it is still available here in the UK folks!

The cassette Walkman will continue to be produced in China and distributed in the U.S., Europe and some Asian countries. You can buy your cassettes and Walkman from Argos and elsewhere on the high street.

I can almost hear the opening bars of ‘Wired for Sound’……….
