Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 – stunning specs, price, UK compatible (probably)
Xiaomi is not afraid of anyone. Just check out its MacBook Pro rival. In another bold move it has launched its new flagship phone one day before Apple’s big iPhone announcement – please welcome the Mi Mix 2.
The original Mi Mix certainly got tongues wagging but the Chinese smartphone maker has done itself proud.
The Mi Mix 2 is a beautiful-looking, nearly bezel-less device with pretty crazy specs and a surprising price. In a good way.
Just like its predecessor, the Mi Mix, Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2 has a huge screen with a very narrow bezels on top and on the sides.
The only noticeable bezel rim, really, is the chin. This is not wasted, however, as Xiami has shoved the selfie camera in there.
The Mi Mix 2 has a 5.99-inch, 18:9 screen, with a hidden speaker on top. It appears that the company decided to skip the piezoelectric speaker tech this time around.
The package is so compact that the phone is actually 11.9% smaller than the Mi Mix!
That sounds amazing until you realise that the original had a significantly larger 6.44-inch screen. Still, the Mix 2 is nonetheless impressive.
The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor which is pretty much standard for Android flagships these days. That is paired with 6GB of RAM as well as 64/128/256 GB of storage.
And if that’s not enough, you can get the Mi Mix 2 Special Edition. Set expectations to stun.
The Special Edition hands you a gorgeous ceramic body as well as 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Nice. Very nice.
Best of all, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will work in pretty much every market thanks to its 43 LTE bands — something its predecessor didn’t have. Global roll out anyone?
Oddly, for these days, the Mi Mix 2 only has a single 12-megapixel camera on the back.
Additionally, Xiaomi launched its Mi Note 3 alongside the Mi Mix today. That device is packing a bokeh-capable, dual camera setup on the back. Not only that, it has also has a 16-megapixel selfie cam, a 5.5-inch display and a 3,500mAh battery.
Price and availability
The 64GB version of the Mi Mix 2 phone costs 3299 RMB (£383); the 128GB version costs 3599 RMB (£418), and the 256GB variant costs 3999 RMB (£465).
The Special Edition version costs 4,699 RMB (£545). That’s not as affordable as some previous Xiaomi phones, but it’s still a great price when compared to most other flagships out there.
It’ll launch in China on Sept 15th. I am really hopeing that this goes global with pricing equally as sensible as the direct conversions above.
