LG G Flex bendy smartphone official

lg g flex portrait officialAfter the LG G Flex bananaphone was sneakily peeked on video last week the expected official reveal has now been made by LG.

LG has now officially unwrapped, or peeled, its curved screen LG G Flex smartphone.

The manufacturer has stated that this smartphone opens up “a world of design innovations in the smartphone market”.

Well, it’s different.

Unlike Samsung’s take on the curved display, LG is using a vertically curved (top to bottom) screen, rather than horizontal like the Galaxy Round.

The Android OS 4.2.2 Jelly Bean smartphone is bound for South Korea with its 6-inch 720p display, 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear-camera, 2.1-megapixel front-camera, and 3,500mAh battery.

It weighs in at 177g and is 7.9mm – 8.7mm thick. It also has its volume buttons on the rear like the LG G2.

You’ll also find that it packs a Dual Window mode for mutlitasking.

“The flexible display market is expected to grow quickly as this technology is expected to expans further into diverse applications including automotive displays, tablets and wearable devices,” said Dr Sang Deog Yeo, executive vice-president and chief technology officer of LG Display, earlier this month. “Our goal is to take an early lead in the flexible display market by introducing new products with enhanced performance and differentiated designs next year.”

LG claims the curved form of the phone is optimised “for the average face,” delivering better voice and sound quality. It may also offer a better grip, and a better viewing experience when used for watching video in landscape mode.

Starting next month, the LG G Flex goes on sale in Korea. There’s no price or release date for the rest of the world.
