philips 436M6VBPABPhilips monitors has a brand-new monitor line-up called Momentum. This range is focussed on home entertainment, particularly console gaming.

Philips 436M6VBPAB

Philips 436M6VBPAB 4kThe 436M6VBPAB display boasts 1000 cd/m² in peak brightness, ultra-wide colour gamut with 100 % BT.709 and 97.6 % DCI-P3 coverage and 1.07 billion colours achieved by 8 bit +2 bit FRC (Frame Rate Control) colour depth. This is also the first display in the world to be VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standard compliant!

That’s quite a lot of jargon but, for those in the know, they are quite impressive facts.

Additionally, the 436M6VBPAB is also equipped with Quantum Dot technology instead of conventional LED backlight technologies. This innovative semiconductor technology produces vibrant, dynamic colours. This means you can expect bluer blues, greener greens and redder reds.

Thanks to the narrow wavelength Quantum Dot sources for red, green and blue, these primary colours are portrayed with more saturation. That’s why you will get increased vibrance and colour accuracy. The 436M6VBPAB is also a true gaming monitor, giving gamers the upper edge by employing Low Input Lag mode and SmartResponse for quicker visual feedback and Adaptive-Sync for a stutter-free and tear-free gaming experience.

Built for gaming consoles

436M6VBPAB console gaming monitorI am a PC gamer but there a loads out there who prefer to plug a console in to a telly. In fact, the console gaming market is actually the second biggest in 2017 with 29 % of the global games market according to analyst NewZoo. Unfortunately, most TV’s are not designed with gaming as the primary focus. That means that they’re less suited for fast-paced, interactive action sequences; causing ghosting, motion blur and similar artefacts that annoy gamers. Philips has obviously spotted this gap in the market, hence their Momentum range.

Design

The stylish large size display possesses very small bezels and sits on a sleek, thin aluminium stand.

The display features Ambiglow lighting, which is a nice touch. The fast internal processor analyses the image content and adapts the colour and brightness of the light to match the image on the screen. It is especially suited for movies, sports and games.

Additionally, you get excellent responsiveness of just 4 ms GtG. The Philips-exclusive pixel overdrive technology, SmartResponse enables ghosting-free images in fast-paced games and movies with the least latency possible. As well as that, it utilises Adaptive Sync support for AMD GPUs. Adaptive Sync matches the framerate of the rendered imagery with the display’s refresh rate, therefore eliminating stutter and tearing caused by mismatched frames in games.

As well as gaming, the new set is well-matched for casual entertainment, watching movies and TV series.

Input

The MultiView feature can display two sources simultaneously in Picture-in-Picture or Picture-by-Picture modes. Connectivity comes by way of DisplayPort 1.2, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.0 video inputs. There is also USB-C which can send a display signal as well as power to charge devices. The built-in USB 3.0 hub extends the versatility even more by connecting peripheral devices via USB.

Audio is handled by a pair of 7W speakers with DTS Sound.

The Philips 436M6VBPAB remote control will run all HDMI-CEC compatible devices, such as game consoles/DVD-Blu-ray players etc.
