Google Glass could well cost under $300 according to reports

google glassGoogle Glass might launch by the end of the year and it could be more affordable than we all first thought.

Keeping in mind that developers had to fork out $1500 to get their hands in the hi-tech specs, Google could price the smart glasses at $299.

The $300 price suggestion comes from Taiwan’s Topology Research Institute, and not from Google, so it might be prudent take this with a helping of salt.

Still, it makes sense. The price estimate is based on the possible bill of materials for Google Glass. For instance, the projector inside costs between $30 to $35 and is made by Taiwan based Himax Display.

“We believe wearable devices will face the first wave of growth in the coming one to three years due to their innovative features, and will then experience a rapid growth in the next phase when the market becomes more mature,” chief Topology Research analyst Jason Tsai said.

Three weeks ago, Google announced that it will acquire a 6.3% stake in the aforementioned Himax Display company.

What would be the maximum price you’d pay for the heads-up Google technology?
