Nokia 8 officially launched – looks lovely
The new Nokia 8 smartphone is now official, as discussed live on the Tech Addicts UK podcast. Here are all the details on Nokia’s new Android flagship.
Let’s admit it, the re-hashed 3310 didn’t really set the world alight. Sure, it was a talking point, but Nokia managed to sully a classic. That’s my opinion anyhow. Just look what they did to Snake, for crying out loud.
But, I digress.
The Nokia 8 has just been revealed and it has the current crop of flagship phones in its sights.
This new smartphone, which will go on sale in September, is packed with features that make it as powerful as all of its Android rivals.
HMD Global, the company behind Nokia’s return to the smartphone market, has already launched three mid-range devices this year but the Nokia 8 could be the one to firmly re-establish the brand.
Nokia 8 specifications
The Nokia 8 comes with a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Nokia have carved the 8 from a single block of 6000 series aluminium and the handset comes in a range of colour options.
The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor buddied with 4GB of RAM. Storage weighs in at 64GB.
If you need some extra storage, the handset also comes with a microSD card slot which takes up to 256GB cards.
The device is loaded with Android Nougat and it features Nokia OZO spatial 360 degree audio.
Nokia 8 camera
The Nokia 8 comes with Carl Zeiss optics in both the front and rear cameras.
The new Nok features a 13 MP dual image-fusion rear camera with both colour and monochrome sensors. Additionally, there’s a wide-angle 13 MP phase detection auto-focus front camera.
Forget Selfies, Nokia has introduced ‘Bothies’ with the Nokia 8.
Bothies record video from the front and rear camera at the same time. Bothies? Wefies? Gah! Selfies were bad enough!

The videos are then shown on the device in split screen, they can also be live streamed to both Facebook and YouTube.
The handset also comes with Google Assistant and it features unlimited photo storage with Google Photos – not in ‘Original’ quality, unfortunatley.
The handset also comes with a 3090 mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth and 4G LTE.
Price and availability
Nokia will launch their new Nokia 8 smartphone in Europe in September and will sell for €599.
