Eidos Blu-Ray Player – Worth its weight in Gold(mund)?

Now, I know that Blu-Ray came out victorious – but there is still a limit to how much I’d pay for this conquoring tech.

The Goldmund Eidos 20 BD, aimed at “audio-video purists”, will set you back roughly £8,500!!  :0.

They claim to be the first “high-end audio/video manufacturer” to offer a Blu-ray player saying that the new model “embodies the Goldmund high-tech refinement that has made the Swiss-based company a leader in the audiophile community for the last 30 years.”  Remember, almost nine grand!

Bragging rights include the “AC-Curator” power supply circuit which dramatically improves picture and sound stability and dynamics, and the “Mechanical Grounding” construction which removes from the player mechanism spurious vibrations blurring the video signal and increasing jitter.

Still, it’s almost £9,000 even with Goldmund’s “Magnetic Damper,” a device lowering the reading errors; a feature that previously was exclusive to Goldmund’s highest end devices – it is still a startling amount.

How much is a PS3 again?Â
