Parrot ANAFI FPV

Parrot’s ANAFI FPV promises new heights in aerial immersion.

Delivering live, immersive video from its unique 180-degree tilting camera to the included Cockpit glasses, the ANAFI FPV puts you in the cockpit of Parrot’s fast, nimble, and ultraportable ANAFI drone.

The Parrot ANAFI FPV offers pilots beautiful and thrilling immersive experiences, in-depth manual controls for both piloting and imaging.

The quadcopter also boasts 4K HDR video and 21-megapixel images, easy-to-use modes and presets, effortless portability, long battery life, on the go USB-C charging and best-in-class features.

Innovation + Immersion

Parrot ANAFI FPV

To unleash the ultimate immersive experience, pair your smartphone to ANAFI FPV with the FreeFlight 6.6 app, and place your phone in the included Cockpit glasses. Once you’re wearing the glasses and launch the AFAFI FPV, the unique 180-degree tilting camera – with 3-axis stabilisation and 3X zoom – will provide an exhilarating view at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h).

ANAFI FPV’s brand-new FPV interface in FreeFlight 6.6 is a simple, streamlined heads-up display (HUD) with an immersive, unobstructed view of your aerial acrobatics. Additionally, any safety alerts or geofencing limits are automatically highlighted in your field of view.

Parrot ANAFI FPV

The main FPV HUD shows contextual information, such as flight speed, direction, altitude and drone location. However, by clicking a button on top of the Cockpitglasses, you can easily swap to a minimal HUD interface. Doing so means you can fully immerse yourself into the FPV experience.

You can even find your ANAFI in mid-air without removing the Cockpit glasses: Switch to See-Through View, and you’ll see live video from your smartphone camera. An overlay shows the exact position of your drone. Moreover, if your ANAFI is off-screen, an icon points to its location.

The new standard for aerial photography

ANAFI FPV is so much more than incredibly fun. The camera experience is a new paradigm for aerial photographers and videographers. The full array of ANAFI’s manual camera settings are available in FPV mode – but only when you want to see them.

Photographers can enjoy total immersion in the on-screen image, exploring new techniques for shot composition – then seamlessly toggle into deep image controls to fine-tune photos and videos.

Clicking the button on Cockpitglasses and opening the settings menu offers you fully manual settings such as shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and exposure compensation. Also, there are advanced features such as an image histogram and “zebra” exposure assistance overlay.

Fast access to manual settings can also be accomplished with the Skycontroller 3, which supports custom mapping of the right trigger to adjust exposure.

Video

Two new flight presets join ANAFI’s menu of options, designed to help pilots of every level capture stunning videos with ease.

Available in FreeFlight 6.6, the new additions allow ANAFI FPV pilots to expand their creativity at the tap of a touchscreen.

Cinematic preset

With the Cinematic preset, you can capture smooth and dramatic footage that looks like you’re behind the controls of a glider. The horizontal axis of the 4K HDR camera is locked to the tilt of the drone, and footage shows every majestic bank and turn in your flight.

Racing preset

While the Cinematic preset is built for stable and fluid motion, the Racing preset will get your adrenaline pumping! The horizontal axis is also locked to the tilt of your drone, but this preset is built for speed instead of smoothness: Your videos will have a more aggressive look as ANAFI bobs and weaves through the air at high speed.

Arcade Mode

Along with the launch of ANAFI FPV, FreeFlight 6.6 also introduces Arcade Mode.

In Arcade Mode, flying is as simple as pointing the camera in the right direction. The Skycontroller 3’s left joystick controls the camera, which allows you to view in any direction, while the right joystick controls the movement of the drone.

By holding forward on the right joystick, the drone will travel in the direction the camera is pointed.

Birds Eye View

The new presets and flight mode can also be used in combination to capture stunning results. For example, using the Cinematic preset and Arcade Mode together make it incredibly simple to simulate a “bird’s eye view” as it soars and swoops through the air.

Portable

Parrot ANAFI FPV

Built for any time, anywhere, ANAFI’s ultraportable drone platform included a brand new ANAFI Backpack. The pack doubles as a stable platform to prepare and launch your drone right in front of you. So, you no longer need to put your drone down on snow-covered slopes, mud and dirt, or rugged terrain as you prepare for launch.

The new backpack extends ANAFI FPV as the ultimate go-anywhere drone. ANAFI FPV’s one-of-a-kind folding design, lightweight body, and superb battery life with USB-C charging on the go complement its outstanding image quality, easy-to-use modes and presets, versatile manual controls, and groundbreaking immersive experiences.

Pricing and availability

The ANAFI FPV All-In-One Pack includes and ANAFI FPV quadcopter drone, battery, Skycontroller 3, Cockpitglasses 3, 16gb SD memory card, USB-C cable, extra set of propellers and ANAFI FPV backpack.

The cost for all of that in the AIO Pack is £729.99 and it’s available now.

DJI debuts new drone duo – The Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom.

DJI has finally taken the wraps off the Mavic Pro 2 drone, the follow-up to the hugely popular Mavic Pro unveiled two years ago. The new drone’s introduction should have happened last month; however, it finally saw the stage in Brooklyn, New York on August 23rd.

DJI actually announced two new drones, the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom.

DJI Mavic 2 4K camera drones

The drones are nearly identical and feature the same folding-arm design as the original Mavic. The Zoom features a 12-megapixel camera that simulates a 96mm telephoto lens. DJI states that this makes it the first drone with an optical zoom. The Pro features a 20-megapixel camera designed in conjunction with Hasselblad, the legendary camera-maker whose devices have been to the Moon and the ocean floor.

Both models can record 4K HD video and have all the autonomous flying and recording features. Those very skills are what has made previous DJI models the top choice amongst consumer drones. Furthermore, the new drones have new capabilities, including a “hyperlapse” function that creates moving time-lapse images when the drone covers a vast distance as it records.

The Zoom also features a mode that mimics the “dolly zoom” camera trick popularised by Alfred Hitchcock that appears to have the potential to create some fantastic, bizarre shots.

The new models can fly up to 44 miles per hour, have 8 GB of internal storage, and a maximum flight time of about 31 minutes on a single battery.

Price and availability

Both drones are available on DJI’s website now and should ship within about a day. The Zoom costs £1,099, and the Pro £1,299.

Deebot Ozmo 930 stoodECOVACS Robotics has released new firmware to update their DEEBOT OZMO 930 and D900.

The new software features allow DEEBOTs to simultaneously clean and map an area. So, essentially, they learn the layout of your rooms so that they can re-orientate themselves from any position if needs be.

DEEBOTS re-learn as they go

deebot ozmo 930If you are anything like me, you will rearrange your rooms every now and then. Furthermore, our rooms are always changing; be it clutter from packages, toys being left out by the kids (or pets!). The completely-revised mapping function of the DEEBOTs continuously registers and adapts to these changes.

Furthermore, there has been optimisation to the mapping and orientation functions of the DEEBOT 900 and DEEBOT OZMO 930 as well as the OZMO mopping function. Using Over-The-Air technology (OTA) the software updates automatically over Wi-Fi.

ecovacs deebot ozmo 930Thanks to the Smart Navigation Function, both DEEBOT models are able to measure any room. They are then able to create a digital map of it and transfer it to the ECOVACS app. With the app you can control the DEEBOTs and set them in motion from any location. Additionally, this includes drawing virtual boundaries, creating virtual cleaning plans or undertaking targeted cleaning of separate areas. The new firmware update offers the following advantages:

Wi-Fi coverage map

The bot allows you to track the strength of your Wi-Fi. The small Wi-Fi icon indicates the location of the router and the DEEBOT maps different shades of blue. This indicates the Wi-Fi strength signal within the mapped room on the ECOVACS app.

A bot that maps while it cleans

Thanks to the new SLAM (simultaneous location and mapping) algorithm, changes in room layout will pose no problems. The DEEBOTs can detect carpets and the DEEBOT OZMO 930 can detect when to mop floors without the need for prior mapping.

DEEBOT always knows where it is

DEEBOTs maintain their orientation in a room at all times, even if they are relocated. If the DEEBOT is relocated, it automatically detects it’s in a new location using its stored maps, and continues cleaning from its new position.

Even if the DEEBOT is put in an environment that is not mapped, it continues cleaning and registers the new rooms in the app. The initial map can be restored when the DEEBOT is back at the docking station.

Further info about Ecovacs

More information about these household helpers can be found at www.ecovacs.com.

We hope to get an Ecovac DEEBOT to put through its paces very soon. So, stay tuned.

chrisChris is being called the “Alexa for cars” and claims to be the world’s first digital assistant for drivers.

Chris enables drivers to receive and reply to texts and WhatsApp messages, listen to music from their phone, follow navigation instructions, and make and receive phone calls using an intelligent speech and hand gesture recognition technology on a glanceable full-colour screen display.

If this sounds a little familiar, I reported about the Garmin Speak last year, but I believe it never reached these shores.

Besides, Chris looks sleeker than the Garmin and appears to be gesture driven as well as touch. Moreover, this assistant has been designed especially for drivers.

Chris – Alexa for cars

chris speech recognitionChris offers entertainment, connectivity, and navigation capabilities for drivers. Simply attach Chris to your windscreen or dashboard and connect it with your smartphone via Bluetooth. Additionally, Chris plays nice with both iOS and Android.

The device enables drivers to receive and reply to texts and WhatsApp messages, listen to music, and follow navigation instructions. Naturally, it also allows for making and receiving phone calls.

All of this is achieved using intelligent speech and hand gesture recognition technology on a glanceable full-colour screen display.

Furthermore, unlike other emerging voice assistants, Chris is specifically designed for drivers.

That means it offers a more human-centric user experience that proactively communicates with the driver. It even works offline when there is no mobile signal.

If a WhatsApp or text message comes in Chris will read it out, listen to your reply and send it accordingly. No more secretive typing at traffic lights or peeks at the phone.

The unit is powered by advanced Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing technologies that make you feel like you’re driving with a human co-driver, delivering information to you when you need it most.

Background

New, harsher laws were introduced on March 1st.  In a recent survey conducted by the RAC 89% of the 1,727 drivers asked said they were aware of the law change, more than a quarter (26%) of those who knew of the tougher penalties admitted to regularly using their devices behind the wheel.

If these results were duplicated across the 40 million UK drivers, it could mean at least 9.2 million motorists are habitually breaking the law.

Holger G. Weiss, CEO of German Autolabs, told us

In this age of digital dependency, despite the harsh penalties and safety risks they face, a significant number of drivers persist in using mobile phones when driving. Chris offers drivers a safe, legal, hands free alternative. Through  the  combination  of  voice,  hand  gestures  and  the  display,  it  is  easy  to  use  and reliably  does  what  you  want  it  to  do.  Chris  makes  your  drive  smarter  and  safer  by  keeping  your  hands  on  the  wheel  and  your  eyes  on  the  road.”

Price and availability

German Autolabs will be launching Chris at IFA Berlin 2018 (August 30th – September 5th). It will have an RRP of £299.

parrot anafiWell, we called it. Parrot has finally unveiled the Anafi. Moreover, this new drone clearly targeted at DJI’s Mavic line.

The French flying tech company say that their new portable UAV is the product of two years of development and a “wish list of user feedback and a biomimetic design inspired by insects.”

Parrot Anafi 4K drone

parrot anafi and controllerIt is difficult not to compare the Anafi with the Mavic. Firstly, the new 0.7-pound Parrot drone is foldable. This is one thing that I really love about the DJI device. This allows photographers to be able to stash it away along with the rest of their equipment for travel. It also means that you can just stuff it in your jacket pocket or small bag.

parrot anafi drone foldedSecondly, there’s a 4K HDR camera on-board, and a 21-megapixel still unit mounted on a gimbal.

Parrot tells us that the battery should last around 25 minutes in flight, which is pretty decent. If you are planning on spending a day out flying capturing scenes, you can swap the dead cell with additional batteries. Additionally, you can recharge the drone via USB-C using regular phone chargers or by plugging it in to your car power port.

Parrot ANAFIThe company also claims the drone is the quietest in its class. It’s not silent, of course, but that buzzing lawn mower sound has been reduced by about a third compared to earlier models from the company.

Control

The drone has a controller that plugs into an iPhone or Android device, for touchscreen visualisations via the FreeFlight 6 app.

Parrot ANAFIJust like the Mavic line, there’s a number of different control modes focused on capturing different camera content, including an option for following a subject. Naturally, it of course has a selfie mode.

Video

  • 4K Cinema: 24 fps
  • 4K UHD: 24, 25, 30 fps
  • 1080p: 24, 25, 30, 48, 50 or 60 fps

Clever Wi-Fi

Parrot ANAFIEach foot of Anafi is equipped with a dual-band antenna (2.4GHz and 5GHz). This ensures optimal connection with the Parrot Skycontroller 3 regardless of the orientation of the drone.

This omnidirectional transmission system uses Wi-Fi compliant protocols developed by Parrot.

The drone constantly monitors its Wi-Fi environment in order to switch to another channel when the one it uses is too crowded. This guarantees optimal spectrum utilisation performance and allows Anafi to fly up to 4kms without interference, keeping video transmission.

Price and availability

The price should get DJI worried. Parrot are asking £650 for the Anafi. That’s £120 less than the Mavic Air.

The Anafi is due out July 1st from Parrot, Amazon and “selected retailers.”

GadgetyNews - Low Jargon: High Tech

Parrot_TeaserParrot has given us a heads-up ahead of their announcement this week which will take place on June 6th.

Parrot is all set to launch their newest addition to their drone inventory this week.

Naturally, the French drone manufacturer has only made vague hints on their website and social media as to what we can expect.

However, there has been much speculation and the rumour-mill will continue over the next couple of days. Although, we’ll have a look at what we have so far.

Parrot countdown

On the company’s main website, visitors are first greeted with a countdown. This is joined by green LED lights presumably representing a charging or flashing drone.

This animation and D-day countdown is also currently pinned to the top of their twitter account. So, there’s definitely something on its way.

All very mysterious indeed.

Earlier this year

parrot rain and sun bopOn April 1st this year the company posted an image of a new drone asking for input to their R&D by followers.

Here is the the poster showing a drone for all weathers with the quote.

Hard to adapt to climate changes due to global warming … Help our R&D department to choose the new feature of our next drone! So, rather #SunBop or #RainBop?

Background

Parrot Bebop-Pro Thermal_Rescue 2Parrot did make announcements back in March last year saying that it was intending to diverge from large scale consumer drone production in the light of global domination by China’s DJI.

Since then, the company has released upgrades on current consumer models in the high-end ‘prosumer’ arena, as well as a new model aimed at the precision agriculture market.

First they gave the popular Bebop-Pro and fixed-wing Disco drones some useful new features including thermal imaging and 3D cameras.

The Parrot Bebop-Pro 3D Modeling kit includes a Bebop 2 drone and 12 month licence to use Pix4DModel 3D modelling software and is aimed at architects, builders, real estate agencies and the like.

PARROT Bluegrass farmer droneThe Disco-Pro AG, as its name suggests, presents itself as a ‘all-in-one drone solution’ for precision agriculture. It was handed the multispectral sensor Parrot Seqouia and cloud processing via AIRINOV FIRST+.

These were followed up by the Bebop-Pro Thermal and Parrot Bluegrass. Again the Bebop-Pro Thermal is aimed at the architecture and real estate market, as well as firefighters. It not only sports a front HD camera but also a FLIR One Pro thermal imaging camera, as well as access to the FreeFlight Thermal mobile app.

The Parrot Bluegrass also features Parrot Seqouia and AIRINOV FIRST+, but in addition to distinguishing itself as a quadcopter from the fixed-wing Disco-Pro AG, it includes 1 month’s access to Pix4Dag drone mapping software for precision agriculture.

To complete their positioning in the commercial drone space, Parrot then took SenseFly under their wing, including the Inspection 360 and Ag 360.

In the same year, Parrot also released a low price Mambo FPV cleverly aimed at the drone racing market.

All in all a big year for Parrot.

So, the new drone

Parrot Bebop 2 power bundleOK, so the big question is what will the new drone look like?

Most people seem to think that the new release will be the much anticipated Bebop 3. Moreover, that April Fool’s Sunbop vs Rainbop post could be the clue. Perhaps the new flying camera will be weatherproofed?

The Parrot community has been asking for new features to be added to the Bebop 2 for quite a while now. Funnily enough, this includes front navigation lights. A tie-in to the countdown animation?

My only gripe with the BeBop 3 scenario is that Parrot has been focusing in the commercial drone space. Why would they add a new Bebop 3, other to keep their hand in?

The only answer I can come up with is that they have a really good consumer drone ready for the world.

Could Parrot have a Mavic Air killer on its way? This would certainly shake things up. Let’s face it, if there was a drone brand out there to pull this off, Parrot would be my bet.

gladius droneUnderwater drone specialist Chasing Innovation has launched the Gladius Advanced Pro. This LED-equipped smart submersible boasts omni-directional capabilities.

The aquatic camera drone can dive up to 328 feet to capture 4K images and video, and live stream with “incredible clarity”.

Following a successful Indiegogo campaign, which raised $500,000, Gladius is now available to buy with a suite of new updates.

Gladius underwater drone

gladius droneDesigned for photographers and adventure seekers, the drone is equipped with an in-built 1080P (Standard) or 4K (Advanced) camera.

The device enables users to capture photos or video directly to internal storage or live stream in real-time. Furthermore. the unique stabilising mechanism, combined with low light sensors, and an image quality optimisation algorithm promises stunning underwater footage.

Equipped with LED lights on either side of the camera for 135-degree illumination, underwater subjects and the path ahead will be clear. Each dimmable light is rated at 1200 lumens.

Additionally, Gladius Advanced Pro is perfect for keen divers. Not only can it capture images and video, but it can check conditions before a dive. This greatly reduces safety risks, especially when exploring unfamiliar areas.

Powerful and portable

The polymer lithium-ion batteries support up to three hours of continuous shooting. They can be fully recharged in an hour and a half. Also, you get low battery protection, which notifies you when the battery power drops below 10%. When the power is below 5%, the system will enter lock mode in order to avoid permanent damage to the battery.

Words

Jacky Yang, Chief of Marketing of Chasing Innovation, said:

“The Gladius Advanced Pro can be used by photographers, filmmakers, and underwater explorers to learn more about our oceans and capture stunning content easily. Whether using it to live stream on Facebook, or photograph unusual fish – the Gladius Pro has you covered.”

Price and availability

The GLADIUS Advanced Pro has an RRP of $1,999 and is available on Chasing Innovation’s website.

echo-dot

echo-dotHas the Artificial Intelligence from Amazon turned a malevolent corner? Reports are coming in that Alexa has started to break out in maniacal laughter, apparently at random. Could this point to something more sinister?

The smart home speaker-based bot is already considered untrustworthy by some who are suspicious of the robot who listens to every word you say.

Could they be right to be wary?

Amazon Alexa is laughing at you

echo-familySome Amazon Echo users are reporting some extremely unnerving behavior from their smart speakers, with Alexa spontaneously laughing without being prompted.

The stuff of nightmares

So far, so the stuff of distopian nightmares.

Select All‘s Brian Feldman has suggested some explanations for Alexa’s disconcerting behavior.

There are a few explanations for the behavior depicted above. First of all, you can ask Alexa to laugh, so it’s possible that the mic used to pick up on commands is sensitive in a way that the program accidentally interprets as a request for laughter.”

Feldman goes on to point out the potential areas of failure.

In the chain of nodes that power Alexa, there are a number of things that can fail — the microphone, the software processing the voice command, the smart-home devices that Alexa communicates with (such as the buggy lights), users who just don’t enunciate well enough.

Next step

Tech news site The Verge reached out to Amazon for comfort.

The online store giant responded with

We’re aware of this and working to fix it.”

I just hope that this ends the matter. Let’s face it, if Alexa feels that it can get away with this, what will her next step be?

Has your Echo started giggling at you? Mine hasn’t. Yet.

Let me know below in the comments or on our Facebook page.
