Acer outs gaming laptop and more – Computex

Acer has got the jump on Computex by announcing its new Nitro and Spin laptops and a new range of Iconia tablets.

Computex doesn’t officially start until the weekend. That hasn’t stopped Acer announcing a pair of laptops and tablets today.

Let’s kick off with the laptops.

Acer Nitro 5

The Nitro 5 is aimed at the casual gamer.

The laptop aims to provide a good balance of powerful features with a stylish design.

All models are equipped with a 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS2 display. Dolby Audio Premium and Acer TrueHarmony technology provides the sounds.

There is a range of configurations to chose from, of course.

Gamers can choose from configurations featuring up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics paired with 7th Generation Intel Core i7 processors, or models packing AMD Radeon RX550 graphics with 7th Generation AMD A-series processors.

Acer Nitro 5 frontWhatever you chose you also get Windows 10, and support up to 32GB of DDR4 2400 MHz memory.

If speed is your thing, then opt for the super-fast PCIe SSDs (up to 512GB). This, paired with an optional HDD for storage (up to 2TB), will cut boot-up and loading times.

Connectivity is covered by a Gigabit Ethernet port as well as 802.11ac 2×2 MIMO wireless technology.

Ports include one USB 3.1 Type-C (Gen 1) port, one USB 3.0 port with power-off charging, two USB 2.0 ports, and an HDMI 2.0 port, which can support up to 90 Hz refresh rates.

Keeping it cool in the heat of battle, the Nitro 5 features dual fans with Acer Coolboost tech.

Acer Spin 1

Spin 1Spin 1, an ultra-light convertible laptop that comes in at less than three pounds.

The latest version of the popular Spin 1 convertible notebook is clothed in a sleek all-metal chassis.

This Windows 10 device is lightweight, portable and supports Windows Ink through an Acer Active Stylus. A nice touch for creative users on the go.

Weighing in at just 1.25 kg (2.76 lbs), the 14 mm-thin chassis sports the latest Intel Pentium or Intel Celeron processors. These are paired with 4 GB DDR3L memory as well as a choice of 32 / 64 / 128 GB eMMC storage.

Its 11.6-inch Full HD (1920×1080) touch-enabled screen with IPS2 technology boasts vibrant colours at 178-degree viewing angles.

Spin 1 tentEight hours of battery life hands you plenty of time to play with the device’s four modes: laptop, display, tablet and tent.

The Precision Touchpad supports Windows 10 gestures and, thanks to that Stylus providing natural pen-on-paper experience, you should be quickly able to turn thoughts into action.

Wireless connectivity through 802.11ac 2×2 technology allows it to be three-times faster for downloads when compared with traditional 802.11n 2×2 devices.

Acer Iconia Tablets

Lastly, Acer’s new series of 10-inch tablets.

This includes the new Iconia Tab 10 (A3-A50) which has been designed for premium multimedia experiences. Additionally, there is the new Iconia One 10 (B3-A40FHD) with dual micro-USB ports for flexible connectivity options.

Powered by quad-core MediaTek processors and Android 7.0 Nougat, the new tablets promise a responsive user experience and up to 8 hours of battery life.

They pack IPS2 displays and five-magnet speakers, as well as 802.11ac wireless connections.

Iconia Tab 10

The Iconia Tab 10 features a Quantum Dot tech display. This offers

This offers a wider colour range with higher brightness, deeper saturation and better accuracy for dramatically more vivid visuals.

Iconia Tab 10An Acer-patented subwoofer offers an extra punch while maintaining a slim profile of under 9 mm in height. This is buddied with four speakers for a richer and more immersive audio experience.

The Iconia Tab 10 also features Acer MediaMaster which allows users to set preferences for different types of movies or music.

Iconia One 10

With dual micro-USB ports and OTG support, the Iconia One 10 provides enhanced productivity. This comes by way of it being able to be charged and connected to external devices at the same time.

Iconia One 10You can also add a Bluetooth keyboard for text input.

Android 7.0 also supports multi-windows and quick app switching, which further increases the device’s versatility.

Prices and availability

The Acer Nitro 5 will be available in the UK from July from around £799 in Argos, Shop Direct, Tesco and a range of other retailers.

The Acer Spin 1 will be available in the UK from July with prices starting at £249
