HTC EYE dual camera smartphone promises the best selfies
I was informed by HTC last night that, during its global press event in New York City, its latest smartphone was introduced – the Desire EYE.
The Desire EYE looks pretty swish and will be boasting some unique features.
The EYE is equipped with a 13-megapixel front-facing camera in addition to a secondary 13-megapixel camera on the back of the device. Yup, a pair of 13MP cameras.
It offers dual-LED flash on both ends too. Greedy!
The phone packs a 5.2-inch 1080p screen and the case is constructed from quality polycarbonate with a seamless unibody design that should give the smartphone a premium feel. You won’t have to worry about getting it wet either as it has an IPX7 rating for water resistance.
HTC managed to sneak on some front-facing BoomSound speakers just above and below the screen. There are also three microphones placed around the phone for consistent voice clarity.
Under the hood, you’ll find a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, certainly no slouch, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage that can be expanded with a microSD card slot, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 2,400mAh battery.
The HTC Desire EYE also brings with it the HTC EYE Experience software which will also be rolled out across a number of HTC smartphones at a later date.
EYE Experience
EYE Experience features face tracking of up to four faces to keep everyone perfectly framed (handy for video conference calls).
Other special functions that the EYE Experience brings include the following:
Split Capture function
Combining simultaneous photos and videos taken on the front and back cameras into one split-screen image or video, this creates a new selfie experience, allowing you document your journey and your reaction without relying on thumbnail views.
Crop-Me-In
This places you at the heart of the action by cropping you from the image or video taken with the front-facing camera and positioning it within the scene captured by the main camera, opening the door to more extreme, exciting selfies and videos.
Voice Selfie
This does away with the need for awkward hand contortions by enabling you to trigger the shutter release with a simple command. Simply “say cheese” as soon as you’ve struck the perfect pose or trigger the video recording with “action” or “rolling” commands.
Release
The phone will be available in matte white with coral red edges and matte blue.
The HTC Desire EYE will appear in the U.S. within the next month or so, where it will be sold as an exclusive on AT&T at first.
Exact launch dates and pricing for the UK are currently unavailable but I hope to get hands on with one fairly soon.
As always, keep coming back to GadgetyNews for updates.
