Fujitsu Dual Booting Windows 7 Phone Tablet – NOT Windows Phone 7
Nope – I’m not still a little cloudy after the weekend. This is the news that Fujitsu Japan have released a dual booting mobile phone. You get the choice of Symbian or Windows 7!
The LOOX F-07C is designed to function as a Symbian loaded smart phone as well as a Windows 7 mini tablet. Not the mobile Windows Phone 7 – I’m talking about the full 32-bit Japanese version of Windows 7 Home Premium!
The Fujitsu LOOX F-07C packs in a 1.2GHz Atom processor which will probably be the Z760 which is designed to run at 1.5GHz.
Loaded with a 4-inch touchscreen display flaunting a resolution of 1,024×600 (so 16:9 widescreen with a little room to spare) and a slide-out keyboard all shoved in a body measuring 2cm thick.
The slowly dying Symbian OS apps wont cause the LOOX any problems and, thanks to Windows 7’s multi-touch smarts, use as a tiny tablet should be straight forward enough too.
The video shows the LOOX docked in a USB cradle, which means it could be used as a desktop puter if you really needed to.
Chances are, in Windows 7 mode it will need to be docked as the batter life is quoted as reaching 2 hours tops. When the battery level is getting a little low it automatically switches over to Symbian phone mode – so, pretty much all the time then?
You do get a pair of snappers with a 5-megapixel camera packing face detection and auto-focus, and a 0.3-megapixel job for your video calling needs.
Memory expansion via microSD cards will pumped it up to 32GB.
The dual-booting mobile will cost £540 when translated from Yen and should land in Japan in June/July time. I’m not expecting this to reach our Western shores any time soon.
I’m scratching my head of the choices made for OS – Symbian, once loved by Nokia but they’re now shacked up with Windows Phone 7 and the full blown computer edition of the Windows operating system.
Surely just slinging in Android would cover all bases? Perhaps a keyboard dock that would make it the Windows answer to the Motorola Atrix?
