Plusnet

The South Yorkshire-based internet service provider (ISP) achieved excellent scores across all major categories, leading it to win awards for best technical support, best value, best customer care, most trustworthy and most recommended.

plusnetAndy Baker, CEO for Plusnet said:

Plusnet winning six awards, all of which are voted for by customers, is absolutely fantastic. We are very proud. Thank you to everyone who voted for us, and to our staff who are so committed to making and keeping our customers happy”

Virgin Media also put in an impressive performance in this year’s awards.

Virgin

For the second year running Virgin took the awards for most reliable, customer speed satisfaction and fastest provider. Virgin Media recorded average download rates of 46.33Mb, more than twice as fast as the next quickest ISP.

Joe Lathan, Director of Broadband at Virgin Media said:

We’re thrilled to have been awarded three awards by Broadband Genie, especially as they’ve been voted for by our customers.”

Special awards

Broadband Genie also put together a judging panel made up of industry experts and insiders who were asked to nominate ISPs and services for awards in several categories.

Here are the results:

  • Origin, another Yorkshire-based broadband provider, took the best budget provider award for the first time.
  • Sky won the best bundle provider award for the second year running.
  • Hyperoptic won the most innovative provider award for their Gigabit broadband.
  • Netflix won the best streaming service award.
  • BBC iPlayer took the award for best catch-up TV service.

Rob Hilborn, Head of Strategy at Broadband Genie, said:

It was a tightly contested competition again this year, but fantastic scores across the board for Plusnet rightly put them top out of the big providers in the UK. However, despite many providers scoring strong in certain categories, the survey does reveal that there is still much room for improvement. The fact that just over half of consumers would recommend their broadband provider highlights this.

On a more personal note, this is yet another year that’s pointing out that I should really ditch TalkTalk. I might just give Plusnet a call, at least they’ll understand my accent.
