Comes With Music – not so free

I had a feeling that this was too good to be true – and it was.  Nokia’s ‘Comes With Music’ is not as free as it appears.  Ars Technica discovered that Universal’s ‘Total Music’ charges manufacturers or wireless carriers a subscription fee of about $5 per month for each device sold, which will obviously be hidden in the price of the hand set and/or data plan that you, the end user will have to pay.

Oh, and the free music comes with a healthy serving of DRM- PlaysForSure DRM that is.  That means that the “Comes With Music tracks” won’t be compatible at all with the iPod and Zune.
