You know that I have a soft spot for DALI, the Danish high-end loudspeaker maker. Now they’ve added another reason to get excited with the introduction of Katch. This will be the company’s first-ever compact Bluetooth portable speaker.

Taking a leaf out of Kef’s book, DALI are looking to set fresh standards in portable audio with the stunning new Katch.

The Katch will bring together DALI’s advanced digital technology and unique design know-how to create a loudspeaker that delivers incredibly rich sound from an incredibly compact chassis.

Quite the Katch

Under the extruded aluminium hood sits a Class-D amplifier – capable of pumping out some 2x 18 Watts of power. This is sent through 2 x 21mm soft-dome tweeters and 2 x 3.5-inch aluminium woofers. One pair fires forwards whilst the other are at the rear. DALI promises portable audio with real punch and refined sound that’s perfectly balanced and pitched, even at the highest volumes.

Users are given two placement profiles for the Katch which runs in conjunction with the front/back driver configuration. One profile for freestanding play and one for placement on a shelf to reflect sound back from a wall.

As well as the extruded aluminium body, there’s a stylish ABS/Polycarbonate front, complete with a sliding leather strap for easy carrying. You also get a carry case bundled in to the deal.

The Bluetooth speaker is available in three striking colour schemes: Dark Shadow, Cloud Grey and Green Moss.

Katch connected

Utilising Bluetooth 4.0 with Apt-X and you should be hooked up with the Katch in seconds, while the NFC option is even quicker.

And keeping all options open, DALI has included a stereo mini-jack input. Thanks to its USB charge connector, you can drive a Chromecast Audio dongle too, integrating your portable player into your home network.

The player runs from a powerful 2600 mAh internal battery which charges from empty to full within 2-hours with the supplied charger. You should be able to enjoy up to 24-hours of untethered playback.

Priced at £329, the new DALI Katch portable Bluetooth speaker is available from October 1st.
