AKG Y-series headphones to beat Dr Dre’s cans
Now, I love the understated quality of both my AKG K830BT and AKG K450 cans but it seems that the Austrian audio house has taken a leaf out of the Beats Big Book of Urban success with their über colourful AKG Y-Series.
If you manage to look past the in-your-face styling of the Y50s, and given AKG’s audio pedigree, the Y-Series should have a lot going for it.
If you dig how these look, personally I’d go more for the Y40 and 45, then you can certainly add that to the AKG Y-series being a potent, and almost unbeatable package.
There are three pairs of headphones: the AKG Y50 (below), AKG Y40 and AKG Y45 BT (top pic). They’re available in a range of colours, including teal, yellow, and black and red. And as you can see the Y50 isn’t for the shy and retiring.
The Y50 has a closed-cup ear design for reduced ambient noise and a 3D-axis folding mechanism for easy storage and transport. It’s light, but packs plenty of punch, thanks to the 40mm drivers.
As the name suggests, the AKG Y45 BT adds Bluetooth. You can expect up to 8 hours of runtime from a single charge, they also boast NFC for easy pairing.
