New budget iPod Touch added to Apple Store

new ipod touchApple has just quietly outed a new budget-priced iPod Touch.

The new iPod Touch is a bit of a surprise to see this morning but I wouldn’t quite call it sixth generation.

This latest addition to Apple’s iPod range is a more stripped down version of what’s already available.

Most of the specs remain the same, the dimensions are identical, and you’re still getting a 4-inch Retina display, and the same dual-core A5 processor.

The front-facing FaceTime HD camera remains in situ but the new kid loses its 5-megapixel main snapper and with it a little bit of weight (0.06 ounces).

Storage capacity is another area where the price-saving has been made. Where the other iPod Touch comes in 32GB and 64GB varieties and a number of colours. This new model, however, sports just 16GB of storage and only comes in silver.

The joy of this exercise in frugality is that you can swipe one of these from Apple’s online store now for $229 in the states with the UK site awaiting price details.

Now, I reckon this will have ignited more chat about a cheaper iPhone to be released.
