Google Glass – Official specs

google glass officialGoogle has now released the official specs for Google Glass, as well as the API.

The futuristic face-wear will be equipped with with 16GB of Flash memory (12GB of real space), a 5 megapixel camera for stills, 720p video recording, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth, and a battery that can handle “one full day of typical use”.

Errrrm…. has anyone here used interactive, augmented reality, multimedia spectacles before? What would you say is a typical day’s use?

Here are the important facts and figures of Google Glass:

Fit

  • Adjustable nosepads and durable frame fits any face.
  • Extra nosepads in two sizes.

Display

  • High resolution display is the equivalent of a 25-inch high definition screen from 2.5m away.

Camera

  • Photos – 5 MP
  • Videos – 720p

Audio

  • Bone Conduction Transducer

Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi – 802.11b/g
  • Bluetooth

Storage

  • 12 GB of usable memory, synced with Google cloud storage. 16 GB Flash total.

Battery

  • One full day of typical use. Some features, like Hangouts and video recording, are more battery intensive.

Charger

  • Included microUSB cable and charger.
  • While there are thousands of microUSB chargers out there, Glass is designed and tested with the included charger in mind. Use it and preserve long and prosperous Glass use.

Compatibility

  • Any Bluetooth-capable phone.
  • The MyGlass companion app requires Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher. MyGlass enables GPS and SMS messaging.

Judging by Google’s screenshots, the app will provide access to some of the basic information about the device (including its location), as well as access to the Glassware apps that you have enabled for the device.

As Google helpfully reminds Android users who are tempted to download the app, “if you don’t have Glass, then downloading this will be a waste of time.”
