GadgetyNews at the inaugural WD Speed Run Cup
I really don’t know what I have let myself in for here. I am not the most competitive guys out there, but I have signed up for the Western Digital Speed Run Cup.
This is the very first WD Speed Run Cup. So, at least I will be a part of history no matter where I finish up.
This Thursday (November 23rd) you will be able to watch 18 intrepid (well, 17 intrepid and 1 baffled and confused) competitors battle it out to be crowned champion of this speedrunning event.
Also, all the games will be live-streamed to Twitch from 17:30 on the day. Yes, you will be able to watch me embarrass myself live. However, this will also give you the opportunity to marvel at the skill of the other players.
Gaming marathon
This five-hour marathon (sorry, what?) at the Fnatic Bunkr in London’s Shoreditch will pit the UK’s top speedrunners, video games bloggers and journalists against each other.
We’re going head-to-head in a series of rounds, where my scant skills will be tested against some of the most challenging games out there. Great.
Furthermore, the games listed will include none that I have played: I am Bread, Cup Head, Portal 1 and Super Meat Boy.
Heavyweights
The speedrunners include UK heavyweights Biinny, Cereth, Fuzzyness and iiSalad.
Shoutcaster, Ceirnan ‘Excoundrel’ Lowe, will be our host for the night.
All PCs used in this speedrunning event will naturally be equipped with WD Blue™ 3D NAND SATA SSD. This will enhance the machines’ capacity and reliability as well as hand them blazing speed. The downside is that I’ll have nothing to blame other than my lack of gaming chops.
Watch and learn
How will I get on? I already have a fair idea, but why not witness my demise?
To find out tune in to Twitch at 17:30 on Thursday November 23rd.
