Samsung reveals Sonos-like Shape M5 wireless speakers

Samsung unveiled their Samsung Shape multi-room speakers with the launch of the Shape M7 a couple months ago, and now Samsung has announced the Samsung Shape M5.

Samsung will be showing off their Shape M5 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week along with new soundbars and other audio equipment.

Where the Sonos-similar M7 packs 5 drivers the equally Sonos-esque M5 works with three. This makes it more portable and easier to shove in to those nooks and crannies about the home.

The M5 is equipped with the exact same audio technology as its larger sibling which means that it’s controlled by Samsung’s free Shape mobile audio app, connects to your local network through a Shape hub (not unlike the Sonos Bridge) via your router, and automatically fits into your existing system, whether it’s multi-room or multi-channel.

For those of us already with Hi-Fis hooked up old school then you may be interested in the fact that there’s also a connect box which allows you to mate the new tech thing up with your dusty old analogue speakers, looping them in to be controlled wirelessly, too.

You can play tunes from your own music library, as well as from Amazon, Pandora, Rhapsody, and a few other services on the speaker. Currently this doesn’t include Spotify or Rdio.

Expect more details on the new Samsung Shape M5 speaker next week, including some pricing which should be quite a bit less than the M7s $399.99 tag.
